Hi everone !
I'm happy to announce that my photo's are on the Net.
All about movng : in the water, on land and dancing. With many thanks to a friend of mine, Hilde Braet, who made the photo's at the fitnesscenter. She is a professional photographer, who make's marvellous things, both commercial as well as artistic.I love her creativity.
The choice of the photo's was mine, as well as the titles and the order in witch the photo's are displayed. A liittle story of it's own. A little story of me.Enjoy!
I got a question here and there about wheelchairdancing. I am happy to give you a little information, as far as I know it.
The origin of wheelchairdancing is situated in 1972 at the Munich Olympics, were a German lady, Gertrude Krumpholtz, had that spendid idea and gave a demonstration.
The principle is very simple : the steps on the feet equal a push on the wheel. Moreover the basic steps of say a cha-cha, a salsa, a tango, are kept as much as possible unchanged. Of course the upper body is very important and the arms to make for example the rumba-moves. When dancing with an abled partner, like you see on the photo's, it's called combi-style.
Both parners in the wheelchair dancing is called duo-style. Each dance has it's own choreography. It 's a bit like figure skating, important is to be syncrone.
But there is more : a third style called free style. The name says it all. For exemple : dancing under a large scarf like the purple one on the photo. People sitting and people standing movng together gives a beautiful and spectacular view. Then at a certain moment, the scarf is pulled away and everybody "freezes". You never know what you can expect!
In freestyle you can experiment with a lot of technics. It's left to the imagination of the instructor and the dancers.
Such a week is also a bit about eperimenting. We took up bellydancing. I know, not the most obvious choice in a wheelchair. After coming home I found little metallic ornaments of the hipscarf I danced with in my wheelchair. Very "shaky business" indeed. I loved it !
